Ella es Tamara, una chica Mexicana-Americana que con sus 26 años decide darle un giro a su vida. Dejando la comodidad de sus padres se va a vivir a un apartamento demasiado pequeño en Los Angeles. Trabajando en una galería de arte durante el día para luego servir de mesera en un café y aguantar las demandas de su jefa Nadine que aveces no conoce lo que es el buen humor.

El libro Dreaming in Cuban de Cristina García dice tanto. Une la familia y esos pensamientos opuestos que tienen que ver con la revolución cubana. 

Es cierto que hay muchos quienes apoyan Él Líder, ¿pero qué pasa cuando hay uno que no? ¿Qué pasa cuando Lourdes se va lejos de esa revolución en la que no cree? 

Su madre Celia es fiel a Él Líder como también a la revolución que Lourdes tanto opone. Su hermana Felicia permanece en la isla en donde ella tuvo un hogar, viviendo en un mundo diferente a el de Lourdes y Celia. 

Está Pilar, su hija que esta aun por entender que la Cuba que ella dejo a los 2 años con añoranzas de regresar en compañía de su abuela Celia no es la misma. 

Este libro enfoca mucho y pone uno a pensar. Yo les sugiero que "sueñen en cubano" y que piensen.

Cristina Garcia's book Dreaming in Cuban has so much to say. It bridges the Cuban Revolution with family and the possible opposing thoughts. Yes there are people who support Él Líder, quite strongly too, but what happens when you don't?

What happens when Lourdes moves as far as she can from a revolution that she doesn't believe in? Her mom Celia, is a firm believer in Él Líder and quite an active member of that revolution which Lourdes so much opposes. Her one sister Felicia remains on the island which was once home, embracing a world foreign to Lourdes and even Celia herself. And Pilar, her daughter has yet to understand why the Cuba that she left at the age of 2 is not the one that she yearned to return to in company with Celia. 

This book puts so much into perspective. It makes you think. I encourage you to "dream in Cuban" and think.

De acuerdo al diccionario, la palabra alisar es "peinar ligeramente el cabello". Cosa que en mi país se desea hacer con ansias. 

Lo único es que en la Rep. Dominicana, para hacer tal cosa más fácil se desriza el pelo con químicos. Un proceso continuo para poder alisarse con agilidad.

En el 1995, Latina Women's Voices From the Borderlands llego a las librerías y bibliotecas, una colección de ensayos y cuentos sobre temas variados. Algunos de los temas tienen que ver con política, otros se concentran en la jornada de u a los

EE. UU. y otras tienen que ver mas con la familia.

Algo muy interesante de ver es la diferencia de tiempo entre cuando algunos de los ensayos fueron escritos y ahora para observar lo que ha cambiado y que se ha mantenido igual.

En este libro, uno encontrara una variedad de historias que se regresan a la certitud que todas Latinas compartimos algo en común.
